Description from Youtoob SQL “Where is Emily” by Martin Newbold is a poignant exploration of neglect, justice, and the impact of systemic failure on children. The poem and music video reflect the emotional and moral consequences of a child’s disappearance, and the broken trust between families, social services, and the legal system.

It was also my first attempt at creating a choral song — a way of carrying the question “Where is Emily?” beyond documents and complaints, into music, voice, and feeling. The aim was to reach different audiences: those who respond to evidence, those who respond to art, and those who may only understand the scale of the harm when it is heard as a lament.

The work stands as a commentary on the neglect of child-protection duties, the failure to act on safeguarding responsibilities, and the need for accountability within legal and social systems.
